Hair treatment causes changes in the surface properties of the hair on specific locations.
The 3-D information in the image of a human hair was taken from an AFM topography measurement, the color scale from a simultaneous phase measurement. The dark, modified areas of the hair surface are clearly visible in the phase measurement.
The measurement was done in "Phase Contrast" operating mode.
