A simple sheet of copper was polished and subsequently cleaned with pure ethanol. This STM measurement was carried out under ambient conditions at a tunneling current of 1nA and an applied gap voltage of 50mV.
Sub micrometer sized scratches from polishing and polycristalline platelets can be observed.
