Morphology studies on titanium surfaces

Titanium is used for implants in human body. The aim here was to study the morphology, texture and polishing effect of the surface.

80x80µm image, z-range: 2µm

The starting surface is irregular and rough. Due to the processing the surface morphology alters dramatically. The measured roughness decreases from the top to the bottom.

The AFM measurement was done in "Static Force" operating mode.

Anodizing the surface creates a interesting pattern on the surface.

The roughness of this surface is Rq=0.27µm

The AFM measurement was done in "Static Force" operating mode.

The polished surface is the smoothest surface which is also reflected by the small resultin roughness.

The roughness of this surface is Rq=0.12µm

The AFM measurement was done in "Dynamic Force" operating mode.
